Hi!
My name is Anna Genus, and I am a video editor with hopes of working in digital media for entertainment news. I grew up in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and I recently graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Television, Radio, and Film from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a minor in Marketing from the Whitman School of Management. Additionally, I spent last spring studying and interning in Los Angeles, California with a scholarship from the Jack Oakie and Victoria Horne Oakie Charitable Foundation.
Ever since I was in elementary school stapling together pages for my first “books” and filming fake talk shows on my old Flip camera, I knew I wanted to do something creative with my life. I never really imagined anything else as an option. I am passionate about building stories from the ground up, creative problem solving, and, well, the Oxford comma. While professionally I have mainly focused on real-world events, I have enjoyed working on short films as well as writing poetry and fiction in my free time.
If you asked me last year what I wanted to do for my career, I probably would have said something about working on set or becoming a director, but, as time has passed, and I gained more experience, I realized that I kept going back to post-production. I turned to editing for the same reason I began writing years ago: the ability to create something that can have a lasting impact. I love the idea of creating something out of nothing. Some of my favorite projects have been when I was given very little working footage, or no footage at all, and I needed to figure out how to piece it all together. From writing my first creative projects with Sharpies and Crayons to interning at one of the largest media conglomerates in the country, I am a hard worker who is highly motivated and willing to conquer challenges that come my way.
Who knows what will happen next, but I am ready for it.
Stay tuned for more.
:)
